The Management curriculum helps prepare students for careers as professionals and /or supervisors in goods-producing and service organizations. Students obtain theory-driven and practical knowledge for the management of systems, personnel, projects, and quality. In the core management coursework, students gain strategic communication and leadership skills, learn to run dynamic projects, and acquire the knowledge and skills that prepare them for finding, motivating, and leading talented employees.
As part of the major, students also select a specialization as well as engage in their choice of experiential learning opportunities. These opportunities include a professional internship, research project, international experience, mentoring course, and an experiential/entrepreneurial project.
- The Human Resource Management specialization focuses on the systems and practices associated with hiring and managing an organization’s human capital as they relate to the strategic goals of the organization.
- The General Management specialization focuses on the broad range of knowledge and skills essential for managing complex business processes, addressing operational risks, and leading culturally diverse teams.
- The People Analytics specialization supports an evidence-based approach to workforce management and provides students with the knowledge necessary for using data to support talent management processes.
Both the Human Resource Management and the People Analytics specializations are recognized by the Society of HR Management and help students prepare to take the SHRM-CP exam and become a SHRM Certified Professional.
The integrative focus of the management program also provides excellent preparation for graduate-level studies in business, law, urban and regional planning, public services administration, and health care administration.

Upon successful completion of the program, students will meet the following learning outcomes:
- Recognize, discuss, and demonstrate concepts, techniques, and decision tools available to manage projects.
- Effectively lead work groups and teams by creating a shared vision, mobilizing energy around the vision, and managing obstacles to its achievement.
- Apply human resource management principles and law to evaluate human resource initiatives and manage an organization’s human capital.
- Utilize principles of effective negotiation to plan, prepare, and manage negotiations and conflicts.
- Human Resource Management specialization: Describe how to implement best practices in employee recruitment and selection.
- Human Resource Management specialization: Differentiate methods of compensation aimed at motivating and rewarding employee contributions to the organization.
- General Management specialization: Use appropriate frameworks to assess supply chain operations, create solutions to identified problems, and develop responses to operational/implementation risks.
- General Management specialization: Manage the effects of cultural diversity on employee behavior and performance by recognizing the impacts of globalization and workplace diversity, identifying cultural barriers, and addressing the challenges to managing workplace diversity.
- People Analytics specialization: Recognize business analytics opportunities and utilize analytic techniques to support key organizational decisions.
- People Analytics specialization: Describe how to implement best practices in employee recruitment and selection.
- People Analytics specialization: Differentiate methods of compensation aimed at motivating and rewarding employee contributions to the organization.
The lower-division business core involves completion of courses within the first and second year that build a solid foundation for the upper-division management and business curricula. The lower-division business core course work may be completed at OSU or any accredited college or university that offers equivalent courses transferable to OSU.

Business Administration Core Curriculum
The business administration core curriculum provides students with a broad overview of business; basic skills in accounting and quantitative methods; an understanding of the legal and social environment of business; a background in management and organizational behavior, marketing, finance, and operations management; an understanding of the entrepreneurial process; and the opportunity to integrate course work and further develop decision-making skills through the analysis of business cases.
