Pre-Optometry Option
This option is available within the BioHealth Sciences major at the following location:
- Corvallis
The BioHealth Sciences major combined with the Pre-Optometry option is designed to meet most or all of the requirements for admission to optometry programs across the U.S. Satisfactory completion of the pre-optometry option facilitates, but does not guarantee, admission to an optometry program; applicants are selected on a competitive basis. Students are urged to carefully check admission requirements at their schools of interest and work closely with admission representatives in order to make sure they are meeting all current requirements.
Students may not combine the Pre-Optometry option with any other option offered with the BioHealth Sciences major (Pre-Medicine/Pre-Podiatry, Pre-Pharmacy, Pre-Clinical Laboratory Science, Pre-Dentistry, Pre-Physical Therapy, Pre-Physician Assistant). The option includes courses that must be completed on campus to ensure that students fulfill the required and expected courses of Optometry post-baccalaureate programs.
Option Code: 603
Upon successful completion of the program, students will meet the following learning outcomes:
- Apply scientific knowledge from multiple fields to critically analyze health-related problems.
- Communicate science and health concepts, data, and analytical arguments clearly, professionally, and concisely; both verbally and in writing.
- Practice flexible professional skills needed for careers in health sciences professional fields.
- Recognize, evaluate, and respond appropriately to the needs of a diverse demographic population.
- Courses can double-count in the BHS Major Core and Bacc Core.
