Environmental Chemistry Option
This option is available within the Chemistry major at the following location:
- Corvallis
The Environmental Chemistry option is a Track-Two option in the BS degree in Chemistry structured to provide a strong foundation for working in government, industrial or university labs studying the behavior of chemicals in the environment while emphasizing analytical skills. It is also suited to graduate education in chemistry or environmental chemistry. This option includes 11 courses in biology, microbiology, toxicology, environmental chemistry and health, soil science, and hydrology, including five advanced laboratory courses. Students have a choice of career supportive electives with an opportunity to explore minors in other areas.
Option Code: 504
Upon successful completion of the program, students will meet the following learning outcomes:
- Recall, integrate, and apply essential core information about the key components of Chemistry.
- Demonstrate competency in basic laboratory techniques, laboratory safety, chemical synthesis, and measurement of chemical properties and phenomena.
- Communicate ideas effectively orally and in writing.
- Demonstrate the ability to analyze data, access information and integrate information from various sources in order to solve problems.
The track-two core requirements are slightly modified for the Environmental Chemistry option:
