Agricultural and Food Business Management Minor

The Agricultural and Food Business Management minor offers students an opportunity to expand their skill sets and business acumen as they prepare for careers in production agricultural and related industries. This minor emphasizes the development of general skills in business administration and economic analysis relevant to the operations of farms, ranches, nurseries and the businesses that provide inputs, services and market outlets for them.
The Agricultural and Food Business Management minor is available to students who are not pursuing the AFBM major. Business Administration majors planning to minor in Agricultural and Food Business Management must see both a College of Business advisor and a Department of Applied Economics advisor to discuss certain course restrictions in the minor. Business majors must choose alternate courses to replace the credits that are also in the Business Administration major.

Upon successful completion of the program, students will meet the following learning outcomes:
- Analyze and evaluate agricultural and food business problems and management decisions employing commonly used business software, utilizing various forms of capital and cash-flow budgeting, as well as historic and pro forma firm financial statements.
- Formulate agricultural and food business strategies and marketing plans for both generic commodities and specialized products.
- Explain how external forces such as law, environmental regulation, and government policies impact agribusiness decision making.
Each minor in the Applied Economics Department is created to provide students within and outside the discipline the opportunity to study a secondary area. This minor requires 28 credits of coursework in addition to the student's major. At least 12 of the 28 credits must be upper-division.
- Agricultural and Food Business Management (AFBM) majors may not elect to complete an Agricultural and Food Business Management minor.
- Environmental Economics and Policy (EEP) majors may not elect to complete an Environmental Economics and Policy or Environmental Law and Policy minor.
