Biochemistry and Molecular Biology Minor
This program is available at the following location:
- Corvallis
The Biochemistry and Molecular Biology minor is designed for students from other majors who have an additional interest in the fields of biochemistry and molecular biology. Students majoring in Biochemistry and Biophysics (BB) or Biochemistry and Molecular Biology (BMB) cannot declare the Biochemistry and Molecular Biology minor. Some of the courses used for the BMB minor may be shared with other majors, minors and options.
Minor Code: 046
Upon successful completion of the program, students will meet the following learning outcomes:
- Demonstrate a core knowledge base in the theory and practice of modern Biochemistry and Molecular Biology (BMB).
- Demonstrate experimental design and laboratory skills relevant to biochemistry and molecular biology, including preparation, experimental design, evaluation of data, and safe laboratory practices.
- Critically evaluate data and design experiments to test hypotheses relevant to the practice of Biochemistry and Molecular Biology.
- Read and evaluate primary literature in the discipline.
- Effectively communicate scientific data and ideas, using various formats appropriate for different target audiences.
- Use databases, computational tools and other online resources effectively.
- Demonstrate awareness of ethical issues in the practice of science.
Some of the courses required for the Biochemistry and Molecular Biology minor have additional prerequisites or grade requirements that are separate from the BMB minor.
Grade Requirements
BMB minors must complete the following courses with a grade of C- or better: ((BI 221Z, BI 222Z, BI 223Z) or (BI 204, BI 205, BI 206)), CH 221Z, CH 222Z, CH 223Z, CH 227Z or CH 271, CH 228Z or CH 272, CH 229Z or CH 273, and ((CH 331, CH 332) or (CH 334, CH 335, CH 336))
