History Graduate Major (MA, MS)

The History MA/MS will empower students, as community members and citizens, with a deeper knowledge base and communication skills to engage in broad public debate and enrich public discourse. Our program actively trains them in the pursuit of evidence-based analysis, critical empathy, and an appreciation of the multiple perspectives, complexities, and contingencies in the world around us.
The History MA/MS requires the completion of an option:
- Community History and Civic Engagement (also available via Ecampus)
- Global Perspectives on War, Peace, and Empire (also available via Ecampus)
- History of Science and Technology

Upon successful completion of the program, students will meet the following learning outcomes:
MA
- Conduct research or produce some other form of creative work.
- Demonstrate mastery of subject material.
- Conduct scholarly or professional activities in an ethical manner.
MS
- Conduct research or produce some other form of creative work.
- Demonstrate mastery of subject material.
- Conduct scholarly or professional activities in an ethical manner.
- 45 total credits are required to graduate with the MA or MS in History
- Completion of an option is required (see options for specific requirements)
- Thesis or project must be selected in consultation with major advisor
- Additional elective credits should be taken in HST or HSTS graduate courses, or, with guidance from the faculty mentor, in other courses at OSU
