Through coursework and experiential learning, students will develop expertise and skills necessary to assist diverse communities (at workplace, school, local, domestic and global settings) in ongoing and emerging public health issues and advocate for health equity. The curriculum facilitates students to build expertise such as population health and evidence-based application and acquire skills such as descriptive data analysis and presentation, collaboration, and written and oral communication. Students will apply these expertise and skills and gain hands-on experience through internships. This option is suited for a wide range of careers such as health safety specialists, environmental specialists, community health workers, epidemiologists and public health planners. Students with a specific interest in health system, health policy, health promotion or health behaviors should consider the other options within the Public Health major. This option also serves well for pre-medicine and other pre-health professional students who seek a dual degree as well as for students seeking a graduate degree/further study such as Master’s in Public Health degree in epidemiology, global health, and environmental and occupational health.
