Nutrition Science Minor
This program is available at the following location:
- Corvallis
The Nutrition Science minor is an excellent addition for students wanting a good foundation in nutritional principles anchored in the basic sciences. It pairs well with the BioHealth Sciences, Food Science & Sustainable Technologies, Kinesiology and other majors already requiring the chemistry, organic chemistry and biochemistry series.
This minor will not prepare you to become a dietitian (RDs).
Minor Code: A032
Upon successful completion of the program, students will be able to:
- Describe key determinants of health as well as nutrition strategies for health promotion.
- Apply evidence-based, nutrition science literature in critical thinking activities.
- Use current information technologies.
- Demonstrate effective and professional oral and written communication.
- Identify food sources for obtaining adequate nutrients across the life span.
- Recall how race, gender, age, socioeconomic status and body size influence nutrition-related health disparities across the lifespan.
Some of the courses required for the minor have additional prerequisites or grade requirements that are separate from the minor. Students are strongly encouraged to consult an advisor to be sure that prerequisites are taken.
