This option is available within the Kinesiology major at the following location:

This program is designed for students interested in pursuing admission to medical school or a professional program in the allied health professions, such as athletic training, nursing, occupational therapy, physical therapy, or physician assistant.

Upon successful completion of the program, students will meet the following learning outcomes:

• Understand the methods by which public health identifies potential causes of population health status, and identifies potential targets for intervention.
• Describe the fundamental roles of public health and how those roles are operationalized in public health organization, funding, workforce, and regulations.
• Describe the role of physical activity in health and wellness.
• Demonstrate knowledge of scientific concepts related to physical activity.
• Apply scientific concepts towards assessing, promoting, or enhancing physical health, fitness, or performance.
• Demonstrate skill in communication.
• Integrate principles of the physiologic responses to exercise, including the causes of these responses and their effector mechanisms.
• Describe issues of equity, inclusion, diversity, and social justice in relation to physical activity.

Pre-Therapy and Allied Health is an undergraduate option that may be added to the Kinesiology major once the following admission standards have been met. Students may apply for admission to the PTAH option after completion of 90 credits. Requirements for admission include:

• Cumulative GPA of 3.0 and,
• A grade of "C" or better and average GPA of 2.7 or higher in one of the anatomy and physiology series:
  • BI 231–BI 233 and BI 241–BI 243
  • BI 331–BI 333 and BI 341–BI 343
  • Z 331-Z 333 and Z 341-Z 343 (these courses have terminated but will still be accepted if they were taken)

All required courses in the Pre-Therapy and Allied Health option must be taken in the normal grading basis, A–F. A grade of C– or better is required in all courses fulfilling the Kinesiology major and PTAH option requirements

Suggested Electives for All Tracks

• Students must complete a total of 180 credits required for a degree.
• It is strongly suggested that students examine prerequisite requirements for professional schools and utilize elective credits to meet additional requirements.
• Students may complete foreign language credits as elective credits.
