What is Search Assistant?

Search Assistant is a way of making your results more precise according to your search criteria using specific keywords.

How to use Search Assistant.

Add a specific keyword to your search to narrow the results.
These keywords include:
  • Chapter
  • General Information
  • College
  • Department
  • Major
  • Degree
  • Certificate
  • Endorsement
  • Credential
  • Minor
  • Option
  • Course

When to use Search Assistant.
Use it when trying to find information under a specific area designated by the keywords above. The search will look for the remainder of your search under that heading.
Smart Span
(EX. "Spanish Major" will search for Spanish under the Major field and return with the Spanish Major rather than other departments or Colleges)

When not to use Search Assistant.

Do not use Search Assistant when trying to search for specific phrases or words.  It will do a literal search of the criteria entered.
Smart Grad
(EX. With Search Assistant on when you enter graduate majors it will return majors with graduate degrees rather than information on graduate degrees and majors)

How to turn Search Assistant on and off.

Uncheck the box in the course search with the label "Use Search Assistant" in the General Searcher.  This will turn Search Assistant off and do a regular search.
