Individualized development of German language proficiency and intercultural competence via intensive content-based language learning following the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages.

Upon successful completion of the program, students will meet the following learning outcomes:
- Analyze and interpret spoken German in a variety of contexts, including formal lectures, media broadcasts, and everyday conversations, identifying key points, nuances, and implied meanings, demonstrating proficiency at the B2 level of the Common European Framework of Reference (CEFR).
- Evaluate the effectiveness of communication strategies used by speakers at the B2 level of the CEFR.
- Analyze and interpret a variety of written texts in German, including articles, short stories, and academic papers, identifying main ideas, supporting details, implicit meanings, tone, purpose, and effectiveness of the text, demonstrating proficiency at the B2 level of CEFR.
- Synthesize information from multiple sources to form well-supported conclusions, demonstrating proficiency at the B2 level of CEFR.
- Synthesize and evaluate complex ideas in German by engaging in spontaneous conversations, delivering clear, structured presentations on topics of personal and academic interest, and analyzing texts in both spoken and written forms, demonstrating proficiency at the B2 level of CEFR.
- Compose clear, well-organized written texts in German on a range of topics, including personal, academic, and professional subjects, while justifying their opinions, providing detailed explanations, and using appropriate vocabulary and grammar structures, demonstrating proficiency at the B2 level of CEFR.
- Required courses may not be taken S/U.
- Majors are required to complete each required course with a grade of C or better.
