Child Development Option
This option is available within the Human Development and Family Sciences major at the following location:
- Corvallis
Through classes and internships, the Child Development option provides students with research-based strategies for supporting children’s development. Students develop a strong foundation for careers in preschools, early intervention, positive youth development, and parenting education. Students will be prepared for graduate work in HDFS, education, special education, developmental psychology and other fields related to child development.
With a double degree in human development and family sciences and education, students can earn dual licensure at the pre-kindergarten and elementary school levels.

Upon successful completion of the program, students will meet the following learning outcomes:
- Apply relevant theory and research to culturally-responsive, evidence-based practices with individuals, families, or communities.
- Explain how ecological contexts reinforce systems of privilege and oppression in which individuals and families develop.
- Apply equity, inclusion, diversity and social justice principles in practice with individuals, families and/or communities.
- Critically evaluate policies, programs, and practices with relevance to the wellbeing of all individuals and families.
