Graduate Areas of Concentration

Composition, conducting, music education, performance

The School of Arts and Communication participates in the Master of Arts in Interdisciplinary Studies degree and Master of Arts in Teaching degree. Contact the school for entrance requirements for the MAT degree. Areas of specialization include performance, conducting, composition, music history, and music education.

Music Education

Through the School of Arts and Communication, graduate students may participate in the following programs: Professional Music Teacher Education, the Master of Arts in Teaching (MAT), the Master of Arts in Interdisciplinary Studies (MAIS), and the Master of Education (EdM) with a focus in music education. The school offers graduate courses in music, music education, and music performance. OSU’s music education program is approved by state of Oregon Teachers Standards and Practices Commission (TSPC) and the National Council for Accreditation of Teacher Education (NCATE). With careful planning, students may complete both the initial and continuing teaching licensure requirements, as well as a master’s degree.
